1- Start Early

Moving is not like preparing taxes! Although many people scramble around to finish a project, moving last-minute style only adds chaos to chaos. So start your planning to look for your mover at least two months in advance.

Having the right mover makes a tremendous difference. Your move will bean easier and more relaxed. Take the time
to do your research and moving homework.

2-Begin with Personal Referrals

Do you have friends, neighbors, relatives, or co-workers who have recently moved? Were they happy with their movers? Can they put you in touch?

Look at some listings and reviews. Is it possible to speak with some of the clients? Call at least three movers to schedule a consultation and estimate. When you call, ask for references.

3- Check Listings with Recent Reviews

4- Getting Ready for the Consultation

Contents Inventory and Consultation Checklist: With a pad and pen, walk through your house. Make your own inventory of your stuff. Now is the time to remember things in storage spaces, crawl spaces, and stuff under the beds.
  • Does anything need special handling?
  • Oversize Items?
  • Is there anything that needs to be picked up along the way?

5- Consultation Checklist

  • What is your time frame?
  • Who is doing the packing?
  • Do the movers provide boxes?
  • How much do the boxes cost?
  • What kind of insurance do the movers have?
  • Are there hidden fees, i.e., parking?
  • Are their workers salaried employees or contractors?
  • What is customary for tipping?
  • Are they available on the date you need?
  • Never accept a verbal estimate.
  • Always write everything down.
  • Do not sign anything yet.
  • Evaluate The Consultation:
    - How Did It Go?
    - Pay attention to your impressions!
    -
    Did they meet your standards?

Standards Checklist

  • High Competency Level
  • Trustworthy
  • Great references
  • Good workers
  • Clear Communication
  • Even-tempered and patient
  • A person who pays attention to detail
  • Can you call with questions?
  • Do you feel you can work with them?

Taking the time to find a good mover helps you leave your past and enter your future
with your right foot forward.
